First birthday session

I think family sessions are quickly becoming one of my favorites!
There is just something so special about watching a husband and wife together with their children.
The connection they share and the adoration they have for each other.
I also love all the 'not perfect' shots-when you finally get the kids to look at the camera and the parents aren't! Cause they are trying to get the kids to look:) The faces children make and just the fun, laughter and reality of life they bring.

I love this family:)) They are darling.

The doorway

What is it about gateways that is so inviting?
I was recently in Virginia visiting with one of my dear friends, who took me to see some beautiful historic places. And as we were walking where President George Washington walked-I was struck by the beauty that surrounded me, the importance of history, and how the lives we live impact those around us.

 (George Washington's birth place)

I'm sure as George Washington grew up, he never imaged the impact he would make. How his life, his daily choice, his character, his faith would change history.

 (George Washington's birth place)

Maybe gateways, long narrow paths, doorways... are so intriguing because they are inviting.
They beckon in a way; they arose the curiosity; they speak of the unknown and what lays ahead.
Looking down this long road with no end in sight, it begs to ask the passerbyer, to step through the gates and to walk down that dirt road to the adventures that awaits .

(Mt. Vernon, where George Washington lived as an adult)

I think these gates remind me of faith.
The gardens and grounds are so beautiful and safe-they are the known, the secure, they hold no risk or fear. There is no danger within the gates. Yet to walk through them could bring peril, hardship, struggle-it could bring adventure, love,...it is just that- the unknown. We do not know what it will bring, and that is why it is Faith.

I'm so gland George Washington chose to walk through those gates.
